Conductor gauge determines how much current a cable can carry without excessive heating. The lower the AWG figure, the thicker the conductor, and the more current it accepts.
On equipment left plugged in permanently in a technical room that is sometimes poorly ventilated, that is no theoretical detail. An undersized cord runs warm, ages faster and ends up the weak point of an otherwise sound installation.
Which is why a product page that publishes its gauge is worth more than one that says nothing, at the same price. On a stock management installation meant to last, the information has value in itself.
