The power cable between the mains brick and the Zebra RFD40 charging post is the downstream link of the electrical chain. It carries current out of the power brick and on to the equipment that charges the RFID reader. It is not the same thing as the mains cord, which plugs in upstream, between the wall socket and the brick. Both are needed, and each has its own place in the setup.

The downstream link, in a few markers

A power cable is chosen on where it sits in the assembly, not on how it looks.

→Downstream of the brick: it leaves the power supply and reaches the reader's charging equipment.
→Not the mains cord: that one plugs in upstream, between the wall socket and the brick.
→Made for the RFD40 range: it goes with the power brick intended for this family of readers.
→Built for fixed installation: it links two items that stay put, at a post that does not move.
→Continuous duty: it suits setups that stay plugged in, not occasional use.
→Sold singly: one cable per charging post equipped, covered by a 1-year warranty.

From the power brick to the Zebra RFD40 charging post

A charging setup goes together in three stages. Current arrives from the mains, the brick converts it, then it reaches the equipment that charges the Zebra RFD40 RFID reader. This cable handles the third stage.

Once fitted, it stays put. It is an installation item, not an accessory you carry around. It tucks behind a counter or under a technical shelf, and it is only handled at assembly or when a post moves.

On a site running RFID inventory campaigns to a fixed schedule, this part of the setup is the first one forgotten, right up to the day a post has to move and a cable is missing.

Power cable or mains cord: telling them apart

The two references look alike in the catalogue and nothing separates them at a glance. Yet they do not occupy the same place and are not interchangeable.

The mains cord with plug runs from a wall socket and feeds the brick. This cable runs from the RFD40 power brick and feeds the charging equipment. Ordering one while meaning the other leaves a setup incomplete, and the mistake only shows at assembly.

The rule is simple: ask what the cable has to reach. If it goes to a wall socket, it is the cord. If it goes to a cradle or a charger, it is this one.

Spotting the right cable before ordering

Three questions settle the choice between the two references.

The question to ask	This power cable	The mains cord
Where does it start?	At the power brick	At a wall socket
Where does it end?	At the reader's charging equipment	At the power brick
What happens if it is missing?	The brick has power but nothing charges	The brick stays dead

Both are needed for a complete setup, with the RFD40 power brick between them. The wider range sits under RFID accessories.

One complete chain per charging post

Count one complete electrical chain per post installed: a cord, a brick and this cable. Two posts in two areas call for two chains, not one shared between them.

What sits at the far end depends on how the site works. It will be the 1-slot RFD40 docking station if the reader returns to an assigned post, or the 4-slot battery charger if the site prefers preparing batteries while the reader keeps working.

Think of the 7000 mAh battery too for long campaigns. On a stock management operation running back-to-back sessions, it is the three together that hold availability. The rest of the range sits under RFID readers.

Frequently asked questions

What is this power cable for?▾

It links the Zebra RFD40 power brick to the equipment that charges the reader. It is the downstream link of the electrical chain, the one that comes after the brick.

How does it differ from the Zebra RFD40 mains cord?▾

Position in the assembly. The mains cord links the wall socket to the power brick, upstream. This cable links the brick to the charging equipment, downstream. Both are needed and neither replaces the other.

Can it be skipped if we already have the brick and the cord?▾

No. Without this cable the brick has power but the current never reaches the charging equipment, so nothing charges.

Does this cable suit Zebra TC22 and TC27 terminals?▾

It goes with the power brick of the RFD40 range. TC22 and TC27 terminals have their own electrical references in the catalogue.

How many cables for several posts?▾

One per charging post, each with its brick and cord. For volume pricing, our technical team answers through a quotation request.
