Wide-gate carabiner 52 mm - double lever, 25 kN

Any anchor point with a section under 52 mm: a steel beam, a scaffold tube or rail, a guardrail rail, a heavy-section lifting eye, a thick lifeline support. A 20 mm connector such as the 21 mm twist lock carabiner is limited to rings, harness D-rings and webbing loops. The practical rule: measure the largest anchor on the station, not the most common one.

It is above the standard's requirement without being exceptional. EN 362 asks for 20 kN along the major axis with the gate closed and locked, held three minutes; this connector is rated 25 kN, a quarter of margin. Expressed as a mass, 25 kN is roughly 2.5 tonnes, a figure that only means anything against the shock forces of a fall arrest, never against the operator's weight alone.

The term describes a two-action locking arrangement: opening the gate takes two separate movements rather than a single push, which removes the risk of the gate being opened by webbing friction or accidental contact against a structure.
