Every carabiner closure aims at the same thing: stopping the gate from opening on its own. How each one gets there is what changes on a working site.

A screw sleeve is a threaded collar the wearer runs up by hand once the gate is shut. It is entirely passive: nothing operates it in the wearer's place, so nothing can operate it at the wrong moment.
