How to differentiate a handheld scanner from a barcode reader and a terminal?
It is easy to confuse a handheld scanner, reader and terminal because all three allow to scan barcodes. We explain you how to make the difference.
A handheld scanner is recommended in stores to read 1D barcodes at short distance. It is easier to handle than the reader and generally less expensive.
As for the reader, recognizable by its gun shape, it is more adapted to inventory management because it can read 1D and 2D barcodes like QR codes and RFID tags. It is more efficient thanks to its fast reading speed and longer distance thanks to its laser.
The terminal can read 1D and 2D, it is recommended for stock management and logistics in large warehouses that require a high reading distance and a memory to store a lot of data.
