How to differentiate a barcode reader from a barcode scanner?

Several models of similar barcode readers exist, it is the case of the scanners and the barcode readers. So what is the difference between these 2 tools?

A scanner is recognizable by its pistol shape, it is more adapted to stock management because it can read 1D and 2D barcodes such as QR codes and RFID tags. It is more efficient thanks to a fast reading speed and a higher distance thanks to its laser.

A barcode reader is recommended for a less intense use to read only 1D barcodes at a few centimeters, ideal for stores or in administrative departments. It is more manageable than the reader and generally less expensive.
